Andy Devine: Emmerdale actor died after unintended fall, coroner concludes

Emmerdale star Andy Devine, who performed Shadrach Dingle within the cleaning soap for 10 years, died after an unintended fall, a coroner has stated.

The 79-year-old actor, whose actual identify was Peter Devine, appeared to have “misplaced his stability leading to a fall” and died in Southport Hospital in Merseyside on 27 January.

“He was unable to stand up till his carers arrived to help him which was about an hour later,” Sefton Senior Coroner Julie Goulding stated.

“Peter had a major variety of severe underlying scientific co-morbidities and however all applicable care and therapy, Peter’s situation deteriorated culminating in his loss of life.”

The coroner added that the medical reason behind loss of life was decided as “hospital acquired pneumonia” and the reason for his loss of life was concluded as “accident”.

Devine’s on-screen colleague Liam O’Brien, who performed Ethan Blake within the cleaning soap for 3 years, stated: “Heartbroken to listen to of the passing of an outdated pal.

“Even sadder that he handed in January and by no means knew. I used to be by the ocean now when heard the information and Andy Devine was a sailor by way of and thru.

“Gods relaxation ye pal. Second star to the appropriate. Straight on ’til morning.”

4 Lives actor Daniel Jillings stated: “Such unhappy information! Typically thought of Andy, he was my first drama trainer and an excellent one. A personality each on and off-screen.”

Devine made his Emmerdale debut as Shadrach Dingle, father of Chas and husband of Religion, in 2000.

He left the present in dramatic style in 2010, after his character was killed off as part of an alcohol abuse storyline.

He additionally performed Bernard Thomas in Channel 4’s Queer As Folks, a Draconian Guard in Physician Who and photographer Jason Ross in Coronation Avenue within the Nineteen Sixties.
